This morning, I was listening to a beautiful song by Selah. In the lyrics I heard, “When You come and I am filled with wonder…” I guess I hadn’t ever thought about what it might be like to be filled with wonder in the Lord’s presence.
When I think about being filled with wonder, I see starry eyes. Perhaps on Christmas morning, or just after getting engaged to be married, or when boarding an airplane with my family headed for Italy our first time. Being filled with wonder is all about excitement for what just happened or is yet to come. That’s exactly what it could be like in the Lord’s presence. Excitement and wonder!!
Imagine Jesus stepping into the room while you’re praying. He sits beside you and listens attentively. Then He puts His arms around you in sweet embrace, smiles, and says “yes!” You are touched and filled with wonder knowing your prayers are answered. Now think about laboring over a painful decision. Your head is cradled in your sweaty hands, it aches over the decision, and can’t process another thought or idea. Jesus comes, tells you that you’re on the right track, and gives you wisdom to finish the decision. You are touched and filled with wonder as the labor and worry end.
Jesus comes and fills us with wonder more often than we realize. We don’t recognize it because we’re moving so fast…a quick prayer and on to the next thing. Take time to rest and live in His wonder. Life is what it is. But being filled with wonder makes ordinary life–extraordinary in His presence!
